A Fairy King (Audible Audio Edition) C J Brightley Corinne Shor Books

There are some stories that just end too soon. CJBrightly's "A Fairy King". Left me wanting more. I know this is a short story, but the scene is set so why not bring it along?
Nine year old Hannah unexpectedly receives a letter from a Fairy boy. Their worlds are separate, but he has the power of magic just strong enough to send the letter over. Hannah, of course, has no idea of how to send a message back, but she grows up writing back to the boy, keeping the letters together. He tells her of growing up under his father the King. She tells him of growing up, going to school, finishing college, and getting a job. Their inevitable meeting is tentative but endearing. Her trip to visit the Fairy kingdom cements their relationship.
This may be classed as a young adult story, but those who love stories of growing love, magic and adventure will appreciate this one. Please, please, please, CJBrightly, write soon. I'm waiting.

A Fairy King (Audible Audio Edition) C J Brightley Corinne Shor Books Reviews

A good feel for how a fae prince or king would respond, while trying (as he says) to be more empathic. Not a usual faerie/fairy trait lol. Enjoyable.
Although this was an extremely short story it packed a lot in 4 chapters. I only didn't like that Hannah went from a 9 year old child to a grown woman in 1 chapter. That felt a little rushed to me. However, I understand it was an easy way to quickly get to the point of the point of the story . . . Hannah's in person encounters with Cadeyrn. I liked it!
I really loved this book. It's not often that you get to read a G-rated fantasy romance with adult main characters who act like mature adults. The fairy king, Caderyn, is charming -- he reminds me of Jareth from Labyrinth, except that he's a genuinely good man. Plus, details of Irish mythology! Yay! I loved the sequel every bit as much, too. This was one of my favorite books I've read in the last year. As in, it's up there in the top three (and I read a lot of books).
Caveat -- I had to read this book from beginning to end, so you may not want to begin reading just before bed or a bleary morning will be in store. The writing is descriptive and multifaceted, such that the story unfolds in front of the reader. You will enjoy the journeys from child- to adult-hood of the two main characters, the human Hannah, and the Fairy King Caderyn. They have a one-way communication of letters over years until one day they finally meet and Hannah discovers that magic is truly real and not a metaphor. The story crackles with energy and you are left wanting to explore Caderyn's world further. I hope this becomes a series.
I liked this YA book. Unfortunately I felt the ending was a little abrupt. Story starts with both protagonists at age 9. They start a sort of pen pal letter writing that is one sided because Cadeyrn can only send letters from fairy, but is not allowed to receive any from a mortal. Hannah writes replies, but they are unsent.

This continues for many years. When Hannah is 27, she meets Cadeyrn. All these years she thought he was using euphemisms. But it turns out they were all real. She gives him 4 boxes of letters that she replied to his. After they meet off and on for a week, things happen and Cadeyrn asks Hannah to marry him and she accepts. Although Hannah knows him through the letters, he doesn't know her. I felt this was a little rushed on his part to say he loved her and asks her to be his queen.
I really enjoyed this short story and the unique approach that C.J. Brightly used to tell the story. I loved how we learn about Caderyn through letters written to Hannah. We also learn about Hannah and how she is going to react later in the story. The fact that they exchange letters since they were both nine years old and do so into adulthood is a story of true love or friendship, at the very least. I enjoyed the fact that he is not the typical overly handsome Fae but that just makes him more real. This story left me wanting more to see what happens to Hannah and Caderyn. If you like fairy tales, this is a story for you.
Sweet, sweet story... Hannah has a pen pal with a vivid imagination. He spins her fantastic tales of his trials, his days at court, and battles. Year after year, letter after letter. For eighteen years, Hanny pores over each and every letter from Caderyn. But she doesn't know where he lives, so she carefully writes letters in reply, tucking them inside the letters he has written and storing them away. When he offers to grant Hannah a wish, she finds herself wishing. And everything changes. Enjoyable fantastical read with the relationship between characters developing realistically over a span of years. Hannah is especially well drawn, but Caderyn is not far behind. Well worth the read.
